Dress Love - Emily and Fin

Monday, 16 July 2012

While browsing online last week for a dress to wear for my birthday night out, I came across the brand Emily and Fin, and was instantly smitten. I initially discovered them on Mod Cloth but I was so happy to discover it was a British designer and I would be able to purchase without paying a small fortune in postage charges. I love to wear dresses on a daily basis, so I love dresses that can either be smart enough for work, or dressed up for a night out, or worn with flats and a cardi for day to day life.

Emily and Fin dresses are perfect for this - not too short, not too dressy, and very 50's inspired for a quirky and individual look. I've decided that when I get my first teachers salary at the end of August i'm going to treat myself to one of their dresses - the hard part will be deciding which!

Here are a few of my favourites -

The Lucy dress in White Palm Beach Print.

The Lucy dress in Red and white polka dot

Ella, in navy and white polka dots ( I LOVE LOVE LOVE polka dots, especially on navy)

Alice dress in Coral Sky

Ignore the poor quality picture on this one, just concentrate on the pretty pink stripes! -

Aren't they beautiful!? Which one would you choose?

Poorly :(

Sunday, 15 July 2012

Yup, I'm poorly, and it couldn't have come at a worse time. Yesterday, Robert and I packed up all our (many many) belongings and moved into my parents flat. I was pretty sad to give up our lovely wee flat but with my parents house sitting empty most of the time while they sun themselves in Spain, it made sense to move in here. It's not our first choice of living arrangements as we will have to share with my parents for short periods of time when they come back to Scotland, but financially it makes sense, as we can start saving a deposit for a house.

So anyway, I have a million and one things to do - because we are moving into an already lived in flat, I not only need to unpack our belongings, but I need to clear out cupboards and storage spaces before I can even start! All our stuff like plates, appliances etc are all duplicate, so need to make space for them somewhere too.
It's a good job my parents are in Spain right now coz I think my mum would have had a heart attack when she seen all the stuff we turned up with. Although I did send her the pics below...

I had planned to get a load done today, but alas I woke up at 5am feeling so ill, and I've barely lifted my head off the pillow since. (as i write this on my iphone, my head is still attached to the pillow). Have been stressing all day about getting nothing done but I guess it can wait.

Also stressing about the fact I might need to call in sick for my summer job tomorrow... HATE calling in sick :(

PS. Apologies for the awful picture quality, they were just phone pics

I miss Spain.

We've been home for 3 weeks now and I'm still feeling the holiday blues a little bit. Probably because the weather here is so utterly depressing. Seriously Scotland, rain for weeks on end is NOT summer!

I'd much rather be relaxing here...

Or exploring Spanish castles...

Eating this...

Or this...

Drinking cocktails and beer (for the boy)

Riding ferris wheels in the sunset...

Sigh. Until next summer. In the meantime I guess I should cross my fingers and toes and wish for some sunshine.

Oh this year we're off to sunny Spain... (picture heavy!)

Sunday, 8 July 2012

Well actually, this year we've been to sunny Spain. How come the wait to go on holiday seems to last forever, then the 2 weeks you're away go so so fast?? Despite the holiday seeming to go faster than the speed of light, it was so good. So relaxing, so hot and soooo much tasty food. We were staying with my mum and dad at their house in Algorfa, in the south of Spain.

My mum...

Mum, dad and Robert

A feast of steak, ham, bacon, cheese and eggs on top of a mountain of chips... (this was Robert's)

The view from the balcony

Guardamar market

The best steak ever, you cooked it yourself at the table...

We went to stay in Alicante for the night, and this was the view from our hotel room! stunning!

I was craving a crepe allllll day...

a mojito slush!

I was trying to be funny and make it look like Robert had a lemon for a head.. teehee!

The long underground tunnel we had to walk along to get to the lift up to the castle
 View from the top...

Funny, (or little bit scary story actually!) when I stepped close to the ledge to take this pic, I lost my footing in a little dip on the paving, and literally nearly fell over the side of the castle. The "barrier" of the ledge was only up to my knees so I could so easily have fallen over, I got such a fright.

Back in Algorfa, Robert cooking up a BBQ...

If I lived in Spain I would get so fat coz Allioli is toooo damn tasty and is perfect with crusty loaf

On our last day we went to some mini golf... I actually got a hole in 1 on this crazy twirly shot! Total fluke though coz it took about 6 goes on the night round :(

I think this actually says Miss Tilly but I thought it looked like Jilly...

I forgot to take the camera out on our last night, I was so annoyed! But I did manage to get a couple of iphone pics that i'll share eventually.

But its back to reality now, and July is a superbusy month for us. Ive just started my new summer job, we're moving house, and then I have birthday celebrations happening for my big Three-Oh. Scary, busy and a big bit exciting!
